About me
I'm Jenny Williamson, a freelance proofreader, copyeditor and writer based in London.
What I do
I help my clients publish work they know they can feel confident in. I focus on the language so that you can focus on the stories you want to tell!
I've completed a range of projects, including proofreading group financial statements; writing guidelines on inclusive swing dancing; and bid writing and editing.
My qualifications
I've taken industry-standard training from the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading on proofreading and copyediting.
As well as being a qualified chartered accountant (ACA), I have a bachelor's degree in law, a master's degree in management and a postgraduate diploma in public management (with a focus on public policy).
I'm endlessly curious and love working with a range of subjects.
My background
Although I've always surrounded myself with books, I haven't always worked with words.
Before I changed careers, I went on a roundabout tour to understand the world in an array of ways. This took me through the academic worlds of law and management and into the professional world as a chartered accountant. I began my career as an auditor, working with organisations of all types and sizes across a range of sectors.
I later moved into international development, and learned a huge amount about charity finance, governance, grant-making, fundraising and programme design.
But I always loved language! My enthusiasm for writing and editing briefing papers and processes notes was boundless. I worked on commercial narratives for bids and proofread financial statements. I checked all manner of documents for colleagues.
Finally, I realised that this was what I really loved!
